Actor Sergio Mayer intends to run for Head of Government of Mexico City

Actor Sergio Mayer has once again become the center of public attention after expressing his intention to run for the position of Head of Government of Mexico City. He made these statements shortly after the controversy surrounding his entry into 'The House of Famous 6', where he became the third person eliminated. With a career that combines entertainment and politics, the politician has outlined his interest in participating in the next electoral processes in Mexico City, but under certain 'conditions'. What are Sergio Mayer's political aspirations? In various forums, Sergio Mayer has shown that his aspiration stems from a desire to continue his political career and to promote projects. His possible candidacy depends on the timelines and internal decisions of the MORENA party, of which he is currently a member, as well as on the competition that may arise for the contest. However, setting aside future uncertainties and although the path to the next electoral processes is long and subject to political definitions, Sergio Mayer's intention is to be the Head of Government of CDMX, but to run in the elections 'in 12 years'. 'I would love to be it, I would like to go step by step (...) I don't know, not in the next one, at least in about 12 years, (currently) I have the perfect age to continue preparing for two more terms,' he declared in an interview with journalist José Luis Guerra. Mayer added that he 'can achieve it' as long as he continues his work in politics. Previously, the 'House of Famous' participant had shared his desire to win this public office, but he also expressed his wish to become President of Mexico. 'In the short term, I can tell you that I want to be a senator or Head of Government of Mexico City, and I know that this will generate controversy because it's the first time I'm saying it (...) Of course, I see myself, I decree it, I think about it and I keep working for it, and the fact that I am an actor does not minimize you or take away the possibility of doing things well,' he told in an interview with Yordi Rosado in 2022.

What happened with Sergio Mayer and the controversy over 'The House of Famous'? Sergio Mayer requested a leave of absence to enter 'The House of Famous 6' and thus temporarily leave his post in the Chamber of Deputies: 'Imagine and think that this experiment should be used for those of us who seek to be voted as popular representatives, to get to know the candidates in depth, we save time and money,' he declared in a video posted on his social networks. During his participation in the reality show, Luisa María Alcalde, president of MORENA, confirmed that 'there is an open process' regarding his abandonment of his position as a legislator to enter the TV program. 'He has the right to return to being a deputy, but we also have the right within our organization, and through the Honesty and Justice Commission, to determine if someone has violated the statutes of MORENA (...) the commission determined the suspension of his rights,' she mentioned in an interview with Macanazo Informativo. The latest update on the controversy is that Sergio Mayer offered apologies after his return to the Chamber of Deputies: 'Politically, it was perhaps incorrect, and I recognize it, for which I offer an apology to the society that may have felt offended'.
